Taos Jazz Bebop Society presents

The Marcos Varela Trio

February 7, 7:00 PM

Marcos Varela, bass; Emilio Modeste, sax; Michael Ode, drums

Bassist Marcos Varela
is known for his powerful tone, musical sensitivity and versatility. Currently a member of the Gary Bartz Quartet, Varela has worked with Billy Hart, George Cables, the Mingus Big Band, Geri Allen, Wynton Marsalis, Sullivan Fortner, Theo Croker, and The Last Poets, among countless others.

He shines also as a composer. His San Ygnacio Project is music inspired by his indigenous borderland heritage– blending colorful landscapes of sound with uptempo bop and romantic  ballads.

He is joined by two illustrious and exciting young players: saxophonist Emilio Modeste, currently lead horn player for Stanley Clark and Cindy Blackman-Santana; and drummer Michael Ode, currently with Kenny Garret.

Presented by Taos Jazz Bebop Society.

Founded in 2014, Taos Jazz Bebop Society is Northern New Mexico’s premier presenter of world-class jazz concerts. In addition to a year-round calendar of major concerts, they also offer a series of Sunday Jazz Brunches featuring New Mexico Jazz Artists, and the hugely successful Frank Morgan Taos Jazz Festival every November. They are also a presenting partner organization with the New Mexico Jazz Festival.
