Event Details

Join guest curator and artist Deborah Lujan for an intimate conversation about her work with journalist Inez Russell Gomez. Lujan’s photographs are currently on view alongside selections from the Harwood Museum of Art’s permanent collection as part of Unearthing Futures / Desenterrando Futuros, on view through February 28, 2026. This event is FREE. Donations welcome.

Deborah Lujan is a landscape photographer who specializes in images of her ancestral home at Taos Pueblo, New Mexico. Her ability to convey a sense of intimacy while capturing nature’s effect on the ancient architecture lends to her unique vantage point. She feels that her photographs can teach others about the fragile landscape of her home without having to exploit her culture. Ms. Lujan has shown her photography at various prestigious Native American juried art shows throughout the United States since 2012. She is an accomplished classically trained musician who has played the violin for over four decades. Her photography can be found at her gallery, Summer Rain Arts, located in her family home at Taos Pueblo.

Inez Russell Gomez has worked as Opinion page editor for The Santa Fe New Mexican since 2011, focusing on making it a centerpiece for community conversation where solutions can emerge from civil discussions. The page has been a national Inland Press winner, and her editorials have won numerous state and national awards. In the fall of 2023, she began hosting the weekly podcast, “Conversations Different,” for The New Mexican. From Las Vegas, N.M., Russell Gomez was raised in New Mexico and Lubbock, Texas. She has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Texas Tech University and a master’s degree in communication from The American University in Washington, D.C. Her journalism career has taken her to Texas, Washington, D.C., Florida and back to New Mexico. One of her best jobs ever was serving as editor of The Taos News.

This program is supported in part by New Mexico Arts, a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
