Event Details

Two acclaimed musicians– pianist Emmet Cohen, age 32, and legendary drummer Tootie Heath, 87, will join together in mutual admiration for a night of classic jazz you won’t want to miss.

Emmet Cohen is a vibrant solo performer and a sideman in high demand. His passion for the inter-generational transfer of the knowledge, history, and traditions of jazz led to his “Masters Legacy Series,” a series of recordings with legendary jazz musicians. Among those jazz legends are Benny Golson, Ron Carter, Jimmy Cobb and Tootie Heath. Emmet Cohen is also a member of Christian McBride’s trio “Tip City” and serves as pianist and music director for jazz vocalist Veronica Swift. He is a Mack Avenue recording artist whose premier CD on that label, “Future Stride” (2021), features contemporary stars Marquis Hill and Melissa Aldana.

The youngest of the three Heath Brothers, Albert “Tootie” Heath is the consummate jazz drummer. He has played with seemingly everyone– including John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderly, Art Farmer, Benny Golson, Dexter Gordon, Johnny Griffin, Wes Montgomery, Ethan Iverson and many others.

Joining them onstage will be bassist, Russell Hall.

This program is co-presented by the Harwood and Taos Jazz Bebop Society with support from the Richard B. Siegel Foundation.
