The Harwood Museum

Opening reception: Sunday, June 2, 2019 – 3:00-5:00pm

Alicia Stewart grew up in Madrid, New Mexico, and at an early age began making artwork inspired by her vivid imagination. She always had the dream to one day become an artist, and to be an inspiration for young people and encourage them to follow their dreams. Tragically, Stewart died of an epileptic seizure in her dorm room at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore at the age of 18.

Stewart graduated from the state-chartered New Mexico School for the Arts in Santa Fe. She worked in oil and was experimenting with film. A trip to Haiti inspired her work in depicting street life. Her first exhibition was at the Metallo Gallery in Madrid, N.M.
