Jazz: Charles McPherson

Arthur Bell Auditorium

One of the treasured founders of bebop, Charles McPherson is best known for his time as the lead alto sax player with the legendary Charles Mingus Band. Recently the Western Jazz Presenters Network was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts Grant to support tours with the Charles McPherson Quartet in Spring, August and October through early November, 2018. The project activities include three distinct tours with performances in as many as eight rural and urban nonprofit venues in Western states including Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico and Washington. McPherson is also Resident Composer for the San Diego Ballet. During his residency, he is collaborating with San Diego Ballet’s Artistic Director, Javier Velasco, to compose new music for the company and recruit national jazz artists to further develop the jazz and ballet synergy.

Tickets are $25.00 for general and $20.00 for museum members.
