"Miles & Me" with poet Quincy Troupe
As part of Taos's Poetry and Jazz Festival, we join withTaos Jazz Bebop Society to present the highly acclaimed poet, writer and journalist Quincy Troupe. Troupe's poetry has always had a natural affinity with jazz, and his career has featured a number of important collaborations with musicians… essentially "conversations" between music and poetry that integrate Troupe's explosive poetic voice with the rhythmic, expressive voice of funk, blues and jazz.
Miles Davis, one of jazz music's great innovators, was a close friend of Troupe. His intimate filmed interview with Miles, soon to become a major motion picture called "Miles and Me", will be shown on April 7 at the Harwood Museum. Troupe will introduce the film and follow it with a Q&A with the audience. His candid account of his friendship with Miles Davis is an intimate portrait of a great musician, while also revealing the cultural, social and political events that influenced the man's music.
Tickets are $10 for general and $8 for Museum members. Doors open at 6:30.
